Make sure that you get a letter from the design studio declaring that you own the copyright to your logo.

There is only one way to thwart this from happening and that is to set up a style guide. Not only will a style guide help you steer the reproduction of your logo – it will also help you reinforce your brand recognition – which many argue is one of the strongest selling tools.

Step 1 : Mark the audience for your Style Guide. Is this for staff to put to work in-house or is this for suppliers and contractors to refer to?

The most common question customers ask when looking for a new projector for the home, office, or classroom is: will I take an LCD projector or a DLP projector? LCD, which stands for ‘liquid crystal device’ and DLP, short for ‘digital light processing’ are the two top projector imaging technologies. With so many business brands and types available, it can be confusing for the buyer to make a choice between both technologies. Ultimately LCD projectors give far better image quality and colour accuracy. The next paragraph will explain why DLP projectors struggle with projecting the same level of image quality.
Visualise a set of blinds in your home for your bedroom window. By pulling on a rod you can make the shutters open or closed, according to whether you want to let light in or not. And this is exactly how an LCD projector functions. Each pixel operates like an individual shutter on a set of blinds to either send light through or to block it. DLP on the other hand is formed of millions of microscopic mirrors or ‘pixel elements’ as professionals like to call them. Each pixel element operates to either reflect light or block it.
How the light source is processed from the point when the projector is switched on to when the picture reaches your screen is extremely significant to image quality, brightness and colour accuracy. LCD projectors project white light from the lamp by dividing it into red, blue and green components, by three mirrors which direct the coloured light to 3 individual LCD panels. The 3 LCD panels make the elements of the image by shining each pixel on and off. The pixels are then combined in a glass prism to deliver the projector image. An important point to remember about LCD projectors is that all three colours are projected onto your projector screen all at once. The way a DLP projector functions is very different and even the way an image appears is not the same. With DLP, white light from the lamp is sent through a turning colour wheel with transparent red, blue and green segments, at speeds up to 11,000 rpm/s. This way of making an image forms a sequence of red, blue and green light. The millions of micro mirrors mentioned above reflect the coloured light on the pixels to create the image elements. The elements of the image are projected in sequence on the screen, one colour at a time. The viewer’s vision will then draw each coloured element of the image into a single full image. With LCD projectors, all colours are available all the time to create the highest brightness and great colour accuracy. In DLP, just one colour is available at once, causing lower colour brightness and accuracy. Some designers have included a white segment in the colour wheel to improve overall brightness, but this then detracts from colour accuracy.
I read in forums all the time that DLP offers a higher contrast ratio and therefore must be superior quality. For those who are uncertain, the contrast ratio is a measure of a display system defined as the ratio of the luminance of the brightest white to that of the darkest black that the machine is able to produce. DLP projectors do have high contrast specifications in comparison to many LCD projectors. Initially, this can seem to be a plus, however, in truth, the true black level is determined by the ambient light in the room while the projector is utilised. Do not be fooled by contrast specifications on websites and in brochures.
When the content you are trying to project has moving images, DLP projection technology also creates image errors, or ‘artifacts’. The most typical artifact that a DLP projector creates with moving images is colour break up. Colour break up is incontrovertible in DLP systems because moving images change position between the time red, blue and green colours are shone. LCD projectors do not have this downside because all the colours are sent simultaneously. DLP designers have come up with 3DLP solutions using 3 chips to solve the colour break up issue, but the cost of these projectors make them not practical for many businesses and consumers.
Another difference between LCD and DLP is how they compensate for the refractive qualities of light. Remember back to high school science, and remember how various colours of light refract differing amounts when shone through the same lens. The downside with DLP projectors is that they take the one same panel and the same lens to project Red, Blue and Green. All 3 colours are not the same and refract light differently. Usually with a DLP projector, some yellow colour will be projected above and an extra blue will be projected below an image containing something as simple as a single black line. While being built LCD projectors can be adapted to remove these effects on the projected image, because each colour is projected on a separate LCD panels.
The only veritable benefit (excluding price) with going with a DLP projector is its smaller size and weight. However, this is only relevant to portability and must be traded off against the image advantages of LCD projectors. If resulting picture quality is important to you, then the choice is simple. Choose an LCD projector! LCD projectors will consistently show bright, colourful images with fewer image errors. Charles and his brother James, the duke of York (James II, ruled 1685–88), ordered for more yachts and in 1662 raced two of them from the Thames, from Greenwich, to Gravesend, and returning, on a £100 wager. Yachting was found to be popular among the rich and aristocracy, but after that point the fashion did not last.
The first yacht association in the British Isles, the Water Club, was instigated around about 1720 at Cork, Ire., as a cruising and unofficial coast guard association, with great naval panoply and gravity. The closest thing to racing was the “chase,” in which the “fleet” pursued an imagined enemy. The club persisted, largely as a social club, until 1765, and in 1828, when joining with other organisations, it was known as the Cork Yacht Club (later the Royal Cork Yacht Club).
Yacht racing was first seen in some organized manner on the Thames around the mid-18th century. The duke of Cumberland founded the Cumberland Fleet for Thames racing in 1775. When George IV came to monarchy in 1820, it was then known as the Fleet to His Majesty’s Coronation Sailing Society. The Thames Yacht Club seceded with a racing argument, to become the Royal Thames Yacht Club in 1830. The first English yacht association had been started at Cowes on the Isle of Wight in 1815, and royal funding made the Solent – the strait between the mainland and the Isle of Wight – the continuing site of British racing. The society at Cowes became the Royal Yachting Club, again at the rise of George IV. All members were required to own boats of at least 20 tons (20,321 kg). Sailing races for high bets were held, and the society life was lovely. It came to be that the Royal Yachting Club boats grew in size to more than 350 tons.
In North America, yachting started with the Dutch in New York in the 17th century and went on when the English held power. Sailing was for the most part for leisure and rose to its apogee in George Crowinshield’s Cleopatra’s Barge (1815), which sailed on the Mediterranean Sea and set a standard of luxury and sophistication for the later yachts in the area from the late 19th century. The first persisting American yacht society, the Detroit Boat Club, was started in 1839. In 1844, John C. Stevens instigated the New York Yacht Club while aboard his schooner Gimcrack.
Kinds of sailboats
The Early sailing yachts followed the style of such naval craft as brigantines, schooners, and cutters from the 17th century until the later half of the 19th century. The design of sizeable yachts was initially greatly put upon by the success of America, which was created by George Steers for a association headed by John C. Stevens, and it was the boat for which the America’s Cup (q.v.) found its namesake after its victory at Cowes in 1851. Earlier yachts were not designed and crafted in today’s sense, with just a model being used. Not until the latter half of the 19th century did what was known as naval architecture come into action. Not until the 1920s did the application of the study of aerodynamics do for the design of sails and rigging what it had previously done for hulls.
Because almost all sailboats were individually manufactured, there was a need for handicapping boats previous to the one-design class boats were designed. Therefore, a rating rule was written, which is found in the International Rule, adopted in 1906 and amended in 1919. In modern times, one of the most rapidly flourishing areas in sailing is that of one-design class boats. All boats in a one-design class are manufactured to the same requirements in length, beam, sail area, and other areas (for an example of a two-person sailboat, see illustration). Racing between such boats can be had on an even par with no handicapping at all. A prime example is the generic International America’s Cup Class adopted for racers in the 1992 America’s Cup race.
For the time that yachting belonged largely for the royal and the rich, expense was no issue, and the size of boats increased, in both length and weight. The rise and popularity of smaller yachts came in the latter half of the 19th century in the sailing of the Englishmen R.T. McMullen, a stockbroker, and E.F. Knight, a barrister and journalist. A voyage around the world (1895–98) captained single-handedly by the naturalized American captain Joshua Slocum in the 11.3-metre Spray made plain the value of small yachts. Later in the 20th century, particularly after World War II, smaller racing and pleasure craft became more popular, down to the dinghy, a preferred training boat, of 3.7 m. In the late 20th century, yachts of less than 3 m were sailed single-handedly across the Atlantic Ocean.
Kinds of power yachts
After the decade 1840–50, in which steam began to take the place of sail power in market boats, the steam engine, and later the internal-combustion engine, were increasingly employed in leisure boats. Bigger power yachts were progressed to a high standard, and long-distance sailing became a favoured occupation of the affluent. The early power yachts were paddle-wheel boats; those then made way to boats powered by the completely submerged screw or propeller type of propulsion. As in the case of naval and merchant boats, auxiliaries carrying both sail and power were the yacht standard for several years. By the latter half of the 20th century, several yachts were still auxiliaries, but the large part were only power yachts containing gasoline or diesel engines.
During the last decade of the 19th century there was a push in the construction of large steam yachts. In particular among these was the Mayflower (1897) of 2,690 tons, with triple-expansion engines, twin screws, and a compartmented iron hull, and was manned by a crew of at least 150. The Mayflower, bought by the United States Navy in 1898, was the official yacht of the president of the United States until 1929 and gave active service in World War II.
As larger and better quality internal-combustion engines were created, many big boats were using them for power. The creation of the diesel engine, using heavy oil for fuel, was furthered in World War I. In the decade following, large power-yacht building blossomed, reaching a climax in the Orion (1930) at 3,097 tons. In that time the biggest auxiliary yacht manufactured was the four-masted, steel, barque-rigged Sea Cloud (1931) of 2,323 tons.
The construction of big power boats lessened from 1932, and the trend after that was toward smaller, less expensive craft. Following World War II, a lot of small naval vessels were bought by private owners for conversion to yachts. By the late 20th century, yachting had become a widespread beloved competition enjoyed by thousands of yachtsmen personally owning and maintaining their own small leisure yachts. The popularity of boats and yachtsmen has increased steadily, not only in the traditional places on the seacoasts but also on inland waterways and lakes.

Taxes are differentiated by the impact they have on the placement of income and wealth. A proportional tax is the kind that applies the same relative onus on every taxpayer—i.e., in the case where tax liability and income move in the same proportion. A progressive tax is characterized by a more than proportional rise in the tax onus in relation to the rise in income, and a regressive tax is recognised by a less than proportional rise in the comparable onus. So, progressive taxes are viewed as removing the lack of equality in income distribution, but regressive taxes can have the effect of an increase in these inequalities.
The taxes that are often thought to be progressive include individual income taxes and estate taxes. Income taxes that are nominally progressive, however, could become less so in the upper-income categories—in particular if a taxpayer is allowed to reduce his tax base by declaring deductions or by leaving out some certain income components from his taxable income. Proportional tax rates if applied to lower-income demographics could also be more progressive if exemptions of a personal nature are declared.
Income measured over a given period does not necessarily come up with the most accurate measure of taxpaying requirement. For example, transitory rises in income could be saved, and during temporary declines in income a taxpayer could opt to pay for consumption by decreasing savings. So, if taxation is compared with “permanent income,” it should be less regressive (or more progressive) than when it is compared with annual income.
Sales taxes and excises (excepting those on luxuries) are mostly regressive, because the share of own income consumed or spent on specific goods declines as the level of personal income increases. Poll taxes (also termed head taxes), calculated as a flat amount per capita, clearly are regressive.
It is not easy to term corporate income taxes and taxes on business as progressive, regressive, or proportionate, due to the lack of certainty about the ability of businesses to shift their tax expenses (see below Shifting and incidence). This difficulty of deciding who bears the tax burden is dependant crucially on whether a national or a subnational (that is, provincial or state) tax is being determined.
In analysing the economic purposes of taxation, it is necessary to distinguish between various concepts of tax rates. The statutory rates are those dictated in the legislation; generally these are marginal rates, but occasionally they are average rates. Marginal income tax rates indicate the fraction of incremental income taken by taxation when income is increased by one dollar. So, if tax liability grows by 45 cents when income grows by one dollar, the marginal tax rate is 45 percent. Income tax regulations generally contain graduated marginal rates—i.e., rates that rise as income increases. Structured analysis of marginal tax rates are required to regard provisions other than the formal statutory rate structure. If, for example, a particular tax credit (reduction in tax) reduces by 20 cents for each one-dollar rise in income, the marginal rate is 20 percentage points higher than specified within the statutory rates. Since marginal rates display how after-tax income increases or decreases in response to changes in before-tax income, they are the necessary ones for appraising incentive effects of taxation. It is even more complicated to know the marginal effective tax rate applied to income from business and capital, as it may rely on factors including the structure of depreciation allowances, the deductibility of interest, and the provisions for inflation adjustment. A basic economic theorem holds that the marginal effective tax rate in income from capital is zero under a consumption-based tax.
Average income tax rates determine the fraction of total income that is paid in taxation. The pattern of average rates is the one that is in consideration for assessing the distributional equity of taxation. Under a progressive income tax the average income tax rate grows with income. Average income tax rates usually grow with income, both because personal allowances are granted for the taxpayer and dependents and due to that marginal tax rates are graduated; on the other side of things, preferential treatment of income received fundamentally by high-income households may swamp these effects, forcing regressivity, as shown by average tax rates that lessen as income increases.
