Anyone who produces solar panels for solar electricity right now is about to come to tons of money. With everyone needing to buy and install them at home, the demand scale is about to go off the roof. Even if this producer can only meet a quarter of that demand, they are set for life. But rather than just looking at the trend, why don’t you also get into the business of it and see just how much you can make from the venture? It’s not like a single company can produce the number of solar panels that the entire world needs.
You should see that you get your solar panels from an energy company that knows solar electricity. If you don’t know a lot about the product, get someone from there to help you out, whatever you do though, just get solar empowered. It’s not like it’s going to be too difficult afterall. Of course, you know about global warming; of course you know that we are soon going to need to stop burning fuels to produce power. Of course you know we are going to have to turn to solar power; and of course there will have to be solar panels to go with solar electricity. The only real question is who is going to supply them when the time comes? Who is going to make a ton of money from it? Opportunity knocks here.

All over the globe, you can see the scramble to get solar panels become virtually frenzied. Solar panels for your home is now that huge. No one wants to die after all. There are government incentives all over the United States now, for folks to acquire solar panels for the supply of power to their homes. The reason is obvious; and there might soon be a high demand for the products. The world is going solar, my friend.

Just a few months back, before President Bush left office, he signed the revised Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 into law. In that legislation is a an opportunity for small businesses, farms, and residents to credit some of their small wind turbine cost against their tax expenses.
The Act has allowed us to get a tax credit of 30% of the cost of our wind power system, provided that it’s power capacity does not exceed one hundred kilowatts, and the credit is limited to $4000. However, there are a few problems with the Act. Firstly, it does not apply for wind generators installed before 3 October 2008. Secondly, with home wind turbines, the credit is further limited to the lesser of one thousand dollars per kilowatt and four thousand dollars.
America, who has typically lead the worldwide small wind turbine market recently begun to feel pressure from other nations that offered enticing incentives for small renewable energy systems. So the new legislation was warmly welcomed by a Small Wind Advocate of the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), Ron Stimmel, who said:
“Congress should be thanked for realizing and supporting the small wind turbine industry as a vital player in our energy security and greener environment. These tax incentives will encourage households to reduce their power costs, and fight global warming in a real way.”
This bill is the first federal incentive for small wind turbines since 1985, and industry members believe the credit could grow the U.S. wind power market by 40% or more annually. And along with the upcoming equipment certification scheme, it will help secure it as the global leading market.
If it were not for the persistence of the AWEA requesting a 30% tax credit for small wind turbines (of no more than 100 kilowatts in capacity), perhaps the wind power marker would never have been able to compete equally with the photovoltaic (PV) market.
With both the wind and solar power industries operating in the same renewable energy market, it made sense that the legislation also offers tax relief for solar power installations. Small solar power owners receive 30% credit on the cost of the system, limited to four thousand dollars. And commercial solar owners get an unlimited 30% tax credit on their installation costs.
So how does this act affect anyone who has installed their own system? By the looks of things, DIY renewable energy enthusiasts can also enjoy the federal tax credit as long they have proof of all installation costs and the date they were incurred. But, it is best to get sound legal advice first to help you maximize any tax credit due.
With the new tax credit, coupled with potential state-side credits, we cannot see a better time for anyone to invest in their own renewable energy system at home and offset the wind turbine cost. Whether this means getting an expensive professionally installed solar/wind power hybrid, or learning to do it yourself, potential electricity savings are a decision away. At the end of the day the choice is yours.

In this edition of Green Products, let’s turn to financing. Many people are going through some hard times and some not so hard. You still want to go green in every way you can, but affording it right now may not be as easy as before. After taking a hard look at this challenge, here are some thoughts:
The first place to look for incentives is the manufacture. They are a business, and they are influenced by the economic downturn just like everyone else. They need to turn inventory to stay in business and that is why some are offering price reductions and rebates on green products.
The next incentive to look at is the one that began on February 17, 2009 when President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Re-investment Act of 2009. This new law set aside money in the form of tax credits to offset the cost of installing alternative energy systems and green products.
With this new law in effect you can realize a 30% tax credit when you install an alternative energy source in your home or business. If you own a small business, you also have an option to get cash in the form of cash grants instead of the tax credit.
Third – what about your energy cost savings? Spending money on green products during this time may make more sense than you think. With businesses willing to negotiate, tax credits and a reduction in your energy costs, you are putting money in the bank over the long haul. If you plan well, your investment could pay for itself in months, not years.
Finally, many states have a variety ofl incentives in place, including tax credits, rebates, and even buy-back or cash reimbursements when you have negative energy usage (that is, you produced more energy than you consumed, and have added power to the state’s power grid).
We all win by reducing our dependence on foreign oil, reducing emissions, reducing your carbon footprint and a reducing your environmental impact. A final upside is you help keep contractors working, businesses producing green products and reduce the loss of jobs.

Using the water’s power is an age-old phenomenon. Over the years it has been employed for irrigation and working a variety of machines, including water-wheels. But today, it is used more importantly as a alternative energy source.
Nowadays hydro-power is generated in 3 different ways: hydroelectric power, tidal power, and wave power.
Hydroelectric dams:
This form of hydro power accounts for over 90% of all renewable energy generated. Power is generated in large dams, where water is forced through large turbines.
The advantage of this type of power is that not only does it produce electricity, but the dam helps collect water for our use, so it’s a power and water source in one. Furthermore, the force of the water is so strong that megawatts of electricity can be produced to help power entire cities.
The disadvantage is the devastating effect dams can have on plants, animals and even humans. When dams are built they flood large tracts of land that were once occupied by various species and communities of people. Furthermore, the water-borne animals, such as fish can also be affected. An example would be salmon that are blocked from swimming upstream to spawn by the newly erected dam.
Using The Tides:
With tidal energy, hydro-power is generated as the tides comes in and goes out.
This has been achieved by France and Russia since 1966 in areas with a large tidal range, such as bays and estuaries. One of the systems of tidal power works by trapping water at high tide with a tidal barrage, then releasing that water in one quick burst at low tide. This gushing water drives turbines to produce power.
The only drawback with using such a system is that it only operates as the tide turns, which is every 6 hours.
A second, more recent, tidal system looks very much like an underwater wind turbine. Large windmill like turbines are sunk in shallow water, where they are slowly spun by shifting tidal water.
The nice thing about this tidal system is that the technology is advanced and derived from our land-based wind turbines. And water is much denser than air, meaning it takes only a small current to get the turbine spinning.
The problem is these turbines can only be built in shallow sea floors, where marine life can be damaged and other enterprises, such as oyster farming, is affected.
Wave Power:
Harnessing the power of the waves is the newest type of hydro-power. The system works where surface waves, are used to displace air, which is then compressed and release through turbines, that then spins to make electricity. Two type currently exist – the first is built along the shore-line, where waves constantly break, and the second is built on floating devices in the deep oceans.
Although this technology is relatively new, it has been estimated that there is enough energy in ocean waves to produce up to 2000 Megawatts of power.
But, like any renewable energy system, there are environmental implications. These systems can damage the various corals and other ocean species along our coastlines. And the hydraulic fluid used could cause major water pollution if it ever leaked out into the sea.

Man has come up with ingenious ways to harness the power of nature to produce electricity, hydro power being one of them. Although it is an important renewable energy for the future, there is still much controversy over its long-term environmental impact.

For ages solar cookers were made use of in 3rd world countries where electricity and gas was not readily available. Nowadays various solar oven designs are not only used in these regions to make food, but also to boil water for purification.
But just because first world countries have enough energy supplies, it does not excuse us from using solar cooking at home and helping to conserve that energy. What’s great about solar cooking is that it uses the power of the sun to cook food – though it may take 4 times longer than a conventional oven.
There have been a variety of unique solar oven designs thought up, but they can be categorized in three shapes: parabolic, panel, and box cookers.
Parabolic Design:
A parabolic solar cooker, as the name implies, is made from any reflective material in a parabolic (bowl like) shape that focuses sunlight to a single point. It is the most effective at cooking food quickly and efficiently, however, it tends to be more expensive and hard to make by hand. Furthermore, its fixed shape makes it less portable and raises some safety concerns.
Panel Design:
This shape usually is in a bowl-like shape, and direct the sun’s energy to one area. But it differs to a parabolic cooker in that it is put together with a number of reflective, flat panels and is less rounded.
Although not as effective as a parabolic cooker, it is safer, easier to make, and can be folded up for portability. Panel cookers come in a number of innovative designs, the simplest being made from a fold-able, reflective windshield shade.
Box Shape:
The third type, a box cooker, operates rather differently to the parabolic and panel cookers. Instead of reflecting light to a central point, it absorbs, traps and intensifies the light to create heat.
This results in the entire area of the box to get hot and be able to cook larger portions of food at a time. This design is by far the simplest to put together – all you need is a black cardboard box with one side covered in tin foil and a sheet of clear perspex or glass on top to hold in the heat.
In fact most of these solar oven designs can be made from household materials in a short space of time. And what you can cook in them is really limited to your imagination – you can bake bread, steam vegetables, make stir-fries and even a roast chicken in them. Another advantage is the amount of power you’ll save – unlike a conventional oven, your cooker needs to be outside to operate, so it put less strain on your kitchen’s air conditioning system.
And since over two-thirds of Americans (according to the Residential Energy Consumption Survey) cook food on a daily basis, just imagine how much power we could save if more of us used solar oven designs during the sunny months.
There really is no excuse for not looking more into solar cooking. With a number of affordable solar cookers and free instructions available on the internet, you owe it to yourself, your kids and the environment to try one out for yourself.
