Thin film solar panels are low wattage and need more space than conventional solar panels and they are more prone to degradation. In an attempt to counteract some of these competitive disadvantages they have against conventional solar panels, manufacturers give better warranties for thin film panels.
The biggest thin film solar photovoltaic (PV) project in the United States is the Blythe plant located 200 miles east of Los Angeles, California. The 21-megawatt solar power plant uses thin film solar cells built out of cadmium telluride. At full capacity, the plant will make enough electricity to power an expected 17,000 homes.

Mounting Options For Traditional Solar Panels – It’s In the Mount
Solar panel mounts are available in three main varieties: pole mounts, roof-ground mounts, and flush mounts. With these mounts, you can set up your solar panel on your roof, onto an RV, on top of or against the side of a pole, or even install them as a free-standing unit.
Pole Mounts – No That Isn’t What Santa Claus Needs For His Sled
Pole mounts, specially top-of-pole, have been well-liked for awhile now. Top-of-pole mounts are essentially a steel or aluminum rack and rail structure bolted or welded to a big casing that sets on top of a pole with set-bolts to keep it in place. Side-of-pole mounts are often used when you must mount to the side of a communications tower or telephone pole. Tracking mounts are similar to top-of-pole mounts, but they also have a method of automatically aiming the mount to follow the sun.
Top of pole mounts (as well as sun trackers) are one of the simplest mounts to set up. They essentially only need one steel pole set in the ground (usually in concrete), and the mount slips onto the top of the pole. Most ordinary sizes use a 2-inch to 8-inch pole, usually around 11 to 13 feet in length. They can go higher if you need to get the panel up higher to get out of shading from nearby vegetation.
Common Roof-Ground Mounts
Roof-ground systems can be mounted onto a roof or ground without much variation in setup. They are usually constructed from stainless steel in a grid-like system of supports. Roof-mounted panels for smaller systems are the easiest to install, using tiny flush-mount brackets which lift up the panels to the most excellent position for solar collection.
Ground mounts, as the name suggests, are solar panel mounts that are installed on the ground (as opposed to a pole mount or roof mount). They have supporting, variable legs which allow you to optimize their vertical orientation for solar exposure. Ground mounting systems usually entail lots of steel supports, concrete foundations, and galvanized footings, which can be troubling, when you are attempting to keep your system low cost. Ground mounted systems call for structural strength to avoid weight bearing failure.
Although module mounting systems are available for ground and roof installation, roof mount installation is the most popular and cost effective system. The roof mounted panels are attached to a mounting system normally consisting of an aluminum or steel support structure that attaches the panels to the roof.
The Low Down On Flush Mounts
Flush Mounts are low-priced and easy to install – these are perfect for single panel installations and smaller solar arrays. Flush mounts are put onto a level surface such as the top of an RV, a roof, or the top of a boat and are not used for ground installations. These mounts serve to separate the solar panel from the mounting surface and permit airflow to pass underneath and lower the temperature of the solar panel for smooth operation. Flush Mounts are usually used with small solar arrays on roof tops and RVs, because the structural design of a flush mount cannot support big solar panels.

Seeing an orbital picture of planet Earth at night you right away become mindful of 2 things. The stories cultures tell themselves are the source of much energy, the dreams ( and nightmares ) that induce states, drive business and government big wheels are far more forceful than nuclear energy. The fables and metaphors that frame our comatose daily coming and goings are what we want to turn to when wanting to rethink civilisation and our job in its upkeep.

The humanist convention privileged the old elites, where culture and cash and power coalesced, the poor payed ; the practical, as power shifted from the old elites to the new, a new kind of education appeared and the user pays, eventually the poor are excluded and as cash flows upwards, they pay again.
The democratic offers a way out, as does the environmental: both stem from traditions that challenge hierarchies, yet both are too fragmented to challenge the dominance of the utilitarian, their effect is ameliorative but they contain the potential energy to challenge this dominance should a shift in the world-system cause a power failure – such a shift could be either social or environmental. And the romantic? Child centredness is powerful, as it is the root of both soft and hard individualism, but it is too easily coopted by the dominant cultural elites, particularly those seeking a cultural off-set for the vacuum created by the loss of humanism to utilitarianism.

The theory behind using a powerful magnetic field to improve fuel burn in combustion engines is nothing new. Magnetic fields were use to improve the combustion of fuel as early as 1940s. The US air force used magnets on their Mustang aircraft and produced greater range and performance from poor quality fuel. In 1952, Felix Bloch and Edward Mills Purcell were jointly awarded a Nobel Prize for their work on magnetic fields on solid, liquid and gas substances.
There are three ways magnets save energy and fuel.
Attach a magnet to the fuel lead pipe of your burner. The magnet conditions the fuel allowing greater combustion. This happens immediately. You produce more heat for the same amount of fuel and harmful emission is cut. I have Calorgas (Liquid Petroleum Gas) central heating. Since attaching a magnet, my direct debit has been cut by 110%. If your boiler is old and inefficient, instead of buying a new boiler, try a magnet first.
In addition the cleaner burn suggests that the boiler will need less servicing and lasts longer. If your boiler is efficient, then the benefit will be less. You can’t create energy in a chemical reaction. Magnets permit as near to one hundred pc combustion. Rather than purchasing a costly new boiler, fasten a magnet.
Attach a magnet to the fuel feed of your car and your save fuel, energy and reduce emission. The magnet improves combustion. This produces better mpg, more power and a smoother running engine.
In 1992, The Warren Springs Labs , the United Kingdom Presidency DTI’s own auto testing office, were commissioned to do in depth trials on the advantages of magnetic fuel on motor automobiles and were very stunned by the result. Their 16-page detailed report confirmed increased power, improved fuel usage and a decrease in damaging emissions.
If your car is old with poor emission levels, the magnet will slowly clean the engine. So initially the emission will be higher than expected but eventually the level will drop significantly. A friend of mine tows a caravan with his Peugeot 2L HDi Partner Quicksilver. Since attaching a magnet his mpg has jumped up a further 10 mpg. Normally you would expect about 10% improvement.
Magnets stop and reduce lime scale. Lime scale forms because the solubility of calcium carbonate decreases with increased temperature. As calcium carbonate separates out, lime scale is formed.
Lime scale affects heat transfer. A layer of calcium carbonate 25mm. thick can decrease heat transfer by 95% and a 0.5mm layer of silica causes a decrease of 90%. In addition if lime scale collects on the heating element in your hot water tank, the element will not last long. Lime scale causes problems in washing machines.
If a magnet is attached at an angle perpendicular to the flow of water, it stops the lime scale deposits and breaks down the deposited lime scale. No one knows exactly why this happens but the magnet keeps calcium and magnesium in solution and stops them separating out and producing lime scale. It also lowers surface tension and stabilizes pH. The magnetized water will protect your washing machine but will not stop lime scales in your kettle. This is because the magnetic effect is neutralized when the kettle is boiled.
So there you have it. With fuel prices going upwards at regular intervals, attach a magnet to your boiler, your water system and your car and save energy, save fuel, save money, reduce emission and prolong the life of your boiler and car.
With global warming a major current issue, it is up to all of us to do our bit. In Germany, if your boiler emission level is too high, your pay a fine. One day it will come to Britain and USA. If you have emission problem, a magnet will quickly solve it. The right magnet will keep its magnetic properties for 100 years and you take it with you when you move home or change cars. It needs no maintenance. You just simply forget about it.

The issues associated with the continued of fossil fuels are complex. What is undisputed, however, is the world is turning to meet the challenge through renewable energy.
The World Turns To clean energy
When one thinks of the quantity of energy required to power today’s world, it is simple to get a headache. The sheer volume is so enormous as to be tricky to picture. Now that we have awakened to environment, climate and societal issues related to the ongoing use of carbon-based fuels, it is fascinating to hear the glad-handers all of a sudden thinking green.
Ten years back, who would have imagined the Terminator, now the Governor of California, driving around in a half-breed hummer? Well, he does. More so, Governor Schwarzenegger happens to potentially be the greenest baby-kisser in the Joins States when it comes to basically taking action. California, of course, has just instituted a three bln dollar solar power plan.
Alas, the federal government falls on its face when it comes to energy issues. Beholden to big oil, there current administration simply refuses to acknowledge there is a problem, much less take action. For many in the country, this must give the impression that nothing is being done around the world. In fact, much is being done, but the U.S. simply is not taking part.
For example, give a bit of thought to Victoria, Australia. This province has just committed itself to getting sixty p.c of all of its power from replenish-able sources by 2016. That’s a stumbling number.
How about Germany? The Germans lead the world in wind and solar technology. By 2020, a full 20 percent of the total German energy supply will come from renewable energy. If you have ever experienced the lights of Berlin at night, you know that is impressive.
How about Norway? The country is 99 percent reliant on renewable energy sources. Norway has no petroleum powered power plants. None! It imports no oil. In fact, it exports nearly all of its oil resources, making it the third biggest exporter in the world behind Saudi Arabia and Russia.
How about Brazil? The country is known for its interesting political situation, yet it has managed to turn itself into a clean energy giant in South America. The reason is the country has converted much of its transportation, public and private, to ethanol. By 2007, it is believed most transportation in Brazil will run on 100 percent ethanol, which is a bio fuel made from sugar cane. The price per gallon of ethanol is half that of oil. If the United States was to take the same step, the savings on oil each year would be close to $2 trillion dollars.
The above represent just a few examples of a world making a strong clean energy effort. Sadly , the US is both the largest patron of carbon-based fuels and emitter of Carbon emissions. Till we follow these changes, the method will be unfinished.

There is nothing else lush to a desert dweller than entering their cool home on a sultry afternoon. Cool as in temperature cool. It’s so simple to get ruined living in a centrally cooled home with a central air unit. Each room is as cool as the next. I’ve known people who wore a sweater in their air conditioned home instead of attempting to discover a setting that’s cooler than the out of doors temperature yet not freezing cold. These people have a large amount of expendable money and do not mind their big energy bills. I have separate air conditioners in my windows, and I have a conveyable air conditioner to address my cooling wants.
On the other hand, I have to watch my energy consumption, and that includes my air conditioning bill during the summer months. I wait until the temperature inside is too high to be made tolerable with a fan. That is when my window air conditioning units pay for themselves. On the other hand, some people say that re-cooling the house every day expends more energy than always leaving it at one temperature. In my case, my method works best for me, according to my electric bill!
The only areas I cool are the rooms in which I live. This loses the lavatories, washing room, cupboard and porch areas. In the cool of the evening, I open my windows and let the cool air enter. I close the curtains and windows in the morning before the sun comes up. If I’m out of the house in the day, the units are shut off.
