Make sure that you get a letter from the design studio declaring that you own the copyright to your logo.

There is only one way to prevent this from happening and that is to use a style guide. Not only will a style guide assist you control the reproduction of your logo – it will also help you extend your brand recognition – which many argue is one of the strongest selling tools.

Step 1 : Outline the audience for your Style Guide. Is this for staff to use in-house or is this for suppliers and contractors to refer to?

The most typical question heard when buying a new projector for the home, office, or classroom is: should I take an LCD projector or a DLP projector? LCD, which stands for ‘liquid crystal device’ and DLP, standing for ‘digital light processing’ are the two most common projector imaging technologies. With so many brands and models available, it can be difficult for customers to choose between those technologies. It comes down to the fact that LCD projectors offer far superior image quality and colour accuracy. The next part of this article explains why DLP projectors struggle with creating an equal grade of image quality.
Visualise a set of blinds in your household on your bedroom window. By pulling on a rod you can have the shutters open or closed, according to whether you want to let light in or not. And this is exactly how an LCD projector functions. Each pixel works like an individual shutter on a set of blinds to either allow light through or to block it. DLP on the other hand is created of millions of microscopic mirrors or ‘pixel elements’ as the pros like to call them. Each pixel element operates to either reflect light or block it.
How the light source is processed from when the projector switches on to when the image reaches your screen is extremely significant with regard to image quality, brightness and colour accuracy. LCD projectors shine white light from the lamp by separating it into red, blue and green components, by three mirrors which transfer the coloured light to 3 different LCD panels. The 3 LCD panels create the elements of the image by turning each pixel on and off. The pixels are then simultaneously processed in a glass prism to deliver the projector image. Something to understad about LCD projectors is that all three colours are sent onto your projector screen at the same time. The way a DLP projector operates is very different and even the final product of how an image shows up is not the same. With DLP, white light from the lamp is directed through a rotating colour wheel with transparent red, blue and green segments, at speeds up to 11,000 rpm/s. This approach to projecting an image creates a sequence of red, blue and green light. The millions of micro mirrors as mentioned above reflect the coloured light on the pixels to create the image elements. The elements of the image are projected in sequence on the screen, one colour at a time. The viewer’s vision will then draw each coloured element of the image into the single whole image. In LCD projectors, all colours are available all the time to deliver high brightness and spectacular colour accuracy. In DLP, only one colour is available at once, causing lower colour brightness and accuracy. Some manufacturers have added a white segment in the colour wheel to improve brightness overall, but this also lessens colour accuracy.
I find in forums all the time that DLP gives a higher contrast ratio and therefore must be superior quality. For those unsure, the contrast ratio is a measure of a display system defined as the ratio of the luminance of the brightest white to that of the darkest black that the machine is capable of producing. DLP projectors do offer high contrast specifications compared to a majority of LCD projectors. Initially, this appears to be an advantage, however, in reality, the true black level is determined by the ambient light in the room where the projector is in use. Do not be tricked by contrast specifications on websites and in brochures.
When the content you plan to see has moving images, DLP projection technology also has image marks, or ‘artifacts’. The most typical artifact that a DLP projector creates with moving images is colour break up. Colour break up is to be expected in DLP systems because moving images change position between the time red, blue and green colours are projected. LCD projectors do not have this disadvantage because all the colours are sent at once. DLP builders have come up with 3DLP solutions using 3 chips to fix the colour break up error, but the price tag of these projectors make them almost impossible for many businesses and consumers.
Another difference between LCD and DLP is how they compensate for the refractive qualities of light. Remember back to high school science, and recall how the various colours of light refract various amounts when shone through the same lens. The downfall with DLP projectors is that they use the one same panel and the same lens to project Red, Blue and Green. All 3 colours are obviously different and refract light differently. Generally with a DLP projector, a spill of yellow colour will appear above and an extra blue will appear below an image containing something as simple as a single black line. In building LCD projectors can be set to reduce these effects on the projected image, as each colour is processed on separate LCD panels.
The one real plus (excluding price) with taking a DLP projector is its overall smaller size and weight. However, this is only relevant with regard to mobility and has to be traded off against the image superiority of LCD projectors. If the outcome of the picture quality is important to you, then the decision is simple. Go for an LCD projector! LCD projectors will always show bright, colourful images with fewer image errors. As the Dutch rose to preeminence in sea power during the 17th century, the first yacht was a pleasure craft used initially by royalty and then by the burghers in the canals and then in the protected and unprotected waters of the Low Countries. Charles and his brother James, the duke of York (James II, sovereign 1685–88), ordered for other yachts and in 1662 raced two of them from the Thames, from Greenwich, to Gravesend, and the same way back, on a £100 bet. Yachting was found to be popular for the rich and aristocracy, but after that period the fashion did not last.
The first yacht club in the British Isles, the Water Club, was formed at about 1720 at Cork, Ire., as a cruising and unofficial coast guard organization, with great naval panoply and rigour. The closest thing to racing was the “chase,” when the “fleet” pursued a fictional enemy. The club endured, for the large part as a social club, until 1765, and in 1828, when conglomerating with other groups, it became known as the Cork Yacht Club (later the Royal Cork Yacht Club).
Yacht racing was seen in some stipulated manner on the Thames in the mid-18th century. The duke of Cumberland funded the Cumberland Fleet for Thames racing in 1775. When George IV ascended to monarchy in 1820, it was called the Fleet to His Majesty’s Coronation Sailing Society. The Thames Yacht Club seceded following a racing dispute, to become the Royal Thames Yacht Club in 1830. The first English yacht society had been initiated at Cowes on the Isle of Wight in 1815, and royal patronage made the Solent – the strait between the mainland and the Isle of Wight – the continuing site of British yachting. The association at Cowes became the Royal Yachting Club, likewise at the accession of George IV. Every member was required to have boats of at least 20 tons (20,321 kg). Sailing tests for large bets were held, and the society life was splendid. Eventually Royal Yachting Club boats were raised in size to over 350 tons.
In North America, yachting began with the Dutch in New York in the 17th century and continued when the English took dominance. Sailing was for the most part for fun and reached its high point in George Crowinshield’s Cleopatra’s Barge (1815), which sailed on the Mediterranean Sea and created a benchmark of luxury and sophistication for the later yachts in the area from the late 19th century. The first persisting American yacht club, the Detroit Boat Club, was formed in 1839. In 1844, John C. Stevens instigated the New York Yacht Club while on board his schooner Gimcrack.
Kinds of sailboats
The first sailing yachts took the style of such naval craft as brigantines, schooners, and cutters from the 17th century until the later half of the 19th century. The style of bigger yachts was first heavily impacted by the win of America, which was created by George Steers for a club started by John C. Stevens, and it was the boat for which the America’s Cup (q.v.) was named after its victory at Cowes in 1851. Earlier yachts were not designed and manufactured in the modern sense, with merely a model for an outline. Not until the second half of the 19th century did what was labeled naval architecture come into action. Not until the 1920s did the application of the study of aerodynamics do for the structure of sails and rigging what such study had already done for hulls.
Because almost all sailboats had to be individually custom-built, there was a requirement for handicapping boats as this was previous to the one-design class boats were made. Hence, a rating rule was created, which ended up in the International Rule, accepted in 1906 and edited in 1919. In the present day, one of the rapidly blossoming areas in the field of sailing is that of one-design class boats. All boats in a one-design class are manufactured to single dimensions in length, beam, sail area, and other areas (for an example of a two-person sailboat, see illustration). Racing between such boats can be done on an even par with no handicapping necessary. A great example is the uniform International America’s Cup Class taken on for yachts in the 1992 America’s Cup race.
So long as yachting belonged primarily for the aristocracy and the affluent, cost was no issue, and the size of boats developed, in both length and weight. The promotion and desire of smaller boats came in the second half of the 19th century from the sailing of the Englishmen R.T. McMullen, a stockbroker, and E.F. Knight, a barrister and journalist. A journey around the world (1895–98) sailed single-handedly by the naturalized American captain Joshua Slocum in the 11.3-metre Spray demonstrated the seaworthiness of less sizeable boats. Following this in the 20th century, notably after World War II, smaller racing and recreational boats became more popular, down to the dinghy, a preferred training boat, of 3.7 m. In the late 20th century, boats of less than 3 m were sailed single-handedly across the Atlantic Ocean.
Kinds of power yachts
Following the decade 1840–50, at which point steam started to emulate sail power in public boats, the steam engine, and later the internal-combustion engine, were favoured increasingly in personal yachts. Large power yachts were developed to a high degree, and long-distance travel was a favoured occupation of the well off. The early power yachts were paddle-wheel boats; those then gave way to boats powered by the completely submerged screw or propeller type of propulsion. As in the case of naval and merchant yachts, auxiliaries carrying both sail and power were the yacht fashion for many years. By the latter half of the 20th century, many yachts were still auxiliaries, but the larger part were exclusively power yachts containing gasoline or diesel engines.
In the last decade of the 19th century there was a rise in the design of large steam yachts. In particular among these was the Mayflower (1897) of 2,690 tons, containing triple-expansion engines, twin screws, and a compartmented iron hull, and was sailed by a crew of more than 150. The Mayflower, commissioned by the United States Navy in 1898, was the official yacht of the president of the United States until 1929 and was used in active service during World War II.
As more sizeable and better quality internal-combustion engines were created, many bigger craft started using them for power. The development of the diesel engine, with heavy oil for fuel, was furthered during World War I. During the decade following that, large power-yacht manufacture blossomed, reaching a climax in the Orion (1930) at 3,097 tons. During that period the largest auxiliary yacht built was the four-masted, steel, barque-rigged Sea Cloud (1931) of 2,323 tons.
The manufacture of big power craft declined in 1932, and the style after that was for smaller, less pricey craft. From World War II, a lot of small naval craft were bought by private owners for conversion to yachts. In the late 20th century, yachting is a widespread loved sport enjoyed by thousands of yachtsmen individually owning and upkeeping their own small leisure boats. The number of boats and owners increased steadily, not only in the traditional places along the sea but also on inland waterways and lakes.

Taxes are categorized by the effect they have on the distribution of income and wealth. A proportional tax is a kind that applies the same relative onus on all the taxpayers—i.e., in the case where tax liability and income grow in equal scale. A progressive tax is recognisable by a larger than proportional rise in the tax onus in relation to the rise in income, and a regressive tax is recognised by a less than proportional rise in the relative burden. Thus, progressive taxes are thought of as taking away inequity in income distribution, whereas regressive taxes are believed to result in an increase these inequalities.
The taxes that are normally considered progressive include individual income taxes and estate taxes. Income taxes that are categorically progressive, however, may become less so within the upper-income categories—particularly if a taxpayer is permitted to lessen his tax base by declaring deductions or by leaving out some particular income parts from his taxable income. Proportional tax rates that are applied to lower-income groups can also be more progressive if personal exemptions are made.
Income measured over the course of a given year does not absolutely provide the most appropriate measure of taxpaying status. For example, transitory increases in income can be saved, and during temporary declines in income a taxpayer could decide to provide for consumption by taking from savings. Ergo, if taxation is held in comparison along with “permanent income,” it would be less regressive (or more progressive) than when it is compared with annual income.
Sales taxes and excises (save those on luxuries) are generally regressive, because the dissemination of one’s income consumed or spent for a specific good declines as the rate of personal income increases. Poll taxes (also called head taxes), nominated as a fixed amount per capita, clearly are regressive.
It is not simple to dictate corporate income taxes and taxes on business as progressive, regressive, or proportionate, because of a lack of certainty surrounding the ability of businesses to shift their tax expenses (see below Shifting and incidence). This difficulty of deciding who bears the tax burden depends fundamentally on whether a national or a subnational (that is, provincial or state) tax is being debated.
In assessing the economic purpose of taxation, it is necessary to differentiate between several concepts of tax rates. The statutory rates are specified in law; often these are marginal rates, but sometimes they are mean rates. Marginal income tax rates indicate the fraction of incremental income that is demanded by taxation when income grows by one dollar. Thus, if tax onus rises by 45 cents when income rises by one dollar, the marginal tax rate is 45 percent. Income tax laws generally contain graduated marginal rates—i.e., rates that rise as income rises. Heavy analysis of marginal tax rates need to review provisions as well as the formal statutory rate structure. If, for example, a particular tax credit (reduction in tax) declines by 20 cents for each one-dollar growth in income, the marginal rate is 20 percentage points higher than nominated in the statutory rates. Since marginal rates signify how after-tax income is changed in response to changes in before-tax income, they are the appropriate ones for appraising incentive effects of taxation. It is even more complicated to understand the marginal effective tax rate to apply to income from business and capital, since it may be reliant on such considerations as the structure of depreciation allowances, the deductibility of interest, and the provisions for inflation adjustment. A basic economic theorem shows that the marginal effective tax rate in income from capital is zero under a consumption-based tax.
Average income tax rates signify the portion of total income that is demanded in taxation. The pattern of average rates is the one that is in consideration for judging the distributional equity of taxation. Under a progressive income tax the average income tax rate grows with income. Average income tax rates usually increase with income, both because personal allowances are allowed for the taxpayer and dependents and also due to that marginal tax rates are graduated; on the other side of things, preferential treatment of income received mostly by high-income households might swamp these effects, allowing regressivity, as signified by average tax rates that decrease as income grows.
